the Emperor Akbar asked his favourite courtier, Birbal, "What is the father
of passion?"Birbal had no ready answer and so Akbar told him, "if you
do not find out for me what is the father of passion in the next three months
you will be beheaded. After two and
half months Birbal had come nowhere near discovering the father of passion. He
began to worry about his life. His daughter noticed his despondence and asked
him the reason for it. When he told her she just giggled and said," Call
the emperor for dinner." Meanwhile,
she selected one of her serving maids who bore certain resemblance to her and
made the girl into her double. When the Emperor came for dinner, Birbal had
sent out so there were only two present: Akbar and Birbal's daughter. The delicious
rich food with liberal wine, low lights went into Akbar's head and he indicated
to the young lady that he would be pleased to have her company to bed for the
night. Birbal daughter anticipated
this and thus consented graciously ask Akbar time to change her dress. She sent
her double -The maid to lead Akbar to the bed chamber where they indulged in pleasure
all night long. When Akbar woke up
in the morning he was suddenly filled with remorse that how could he do this to
the daughter of his best friend? How wil he face his friend? He wanted to demonstrate
his penintence and asked for the Birbal's daughter and was amazed that she came
laughing instead of shocked. Birbal's
daughter produced the maid double and told Akbar it was not she but the maid with
whom he has spent the night. She told him," I wanted to prove to you that
solitude is that father of passion." The
